It seems that LDS (Lefty Derangement Syndrome) causes normally thoughtful people to take leave of their senses. When I recently announced my plan to attend the Tea Party Rally in Washington D.C., I unleashed a tirade from some liberals whom I know to be very intelligent. They immediately jumped on the health care issue as their proof that protesters do not have any valid arguments.

I said that there are several common sense changes, short of a 1200 page bill, that would help to make health care more affordable. When I brought up the need for tort reform as a first step toward lowering health care costs, I was met with not even an acknowledgment of the cost issue. I tried to make a point that the medical costs need to be driven down and also that open competition among insurance companies, including “catastrophic only” coverage options, would provide the best bang for the buck in the health coverage arena.

And, by the way, if there’s $500 billion (or whatever the current claim is) in Medicare waste and fraud, why doesn’t the administration ask Congress to clean that up first. Then maybe we’d have a little money to provide the much needed medical care for the disenfranchised—it might also give the government a little more credibility when they claim they can save us money instead of costing us.

I was met with screaming about insurance company profits, that the conservatives want us to die, and that it’s all a grand strategy to get the Democrats out of office in 2010 (I believe the Dems are taking care of that last part all on their own).

After claiming “I’m uninsurable” at least five times, one finally admitted that he did indeed currently have health insurance coverage through his employer. Apparently “uninsurable” means different things to different people.

And, finally, it was claimed that the Tea Party protesters were racists and that the stimulus bill actually passed under George Bush, not Barack Obama.

Way too stereotypical—instead of coherent debate, lefties resort to:

1. Profit is evil
2. You’re a racist
3. Blame Bush

Check, check, and check.

I had actually seen an intelligent man turn into Janeane Garofalo before my very eyes.
